Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students rely on a constant routine every school day. They know exactly what subject we are covering at any time of the day. It was difficult when all of sudden my students were informed that schools were closed. My students were used to waking up in the morning and getting ready for school. As one parent mentioned, "My child looks forward to Monday's class since Friday afternoon."

Despite the circumstances, my students have amazed me with their participation and interactions on the use of online platforms.

I have six class sessions on Zoom every week. On Monday, I teach 2-3rd grade curricula. On Tuesday, I teach TK-1st grade curricula. On Wednesday, I teach both groups during different times. On Thursday, I meet with my entire group of students and focus on teaching a content lesson that is applicable for all. Then, it is Fun Friday Zoom sessions where I do story time, art, and games with students. My students, along with their amazing parents, have done their best to continue learning through a distance.

My Project

Please help me give my students reading materials to continue their distance learning during the summer. They will be able to enhance their reading skills. Students will be able to learn social emotional skills such as building relationships with friends and regulating emotions. Students will be able to engage in dramatic play by acting as their favorite characters. We will also be reading 1 story once a week on Zoom.

My students will benefit tremendously from an online summer book club because they will continue to learn skills useful for the upcoming school year.

I have done my best to provide them with essential and effective learning, but distance learning will continue to be different from being physically present in class. My students benefit from tactile and visuals, and having physical books at home will aide in their learning. My students are ultimate fans of Mo Willems' books, and reading his books will make it their best summer despite the currently circumstances.
