Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My students are curious, thoughtful, and ambitious! They come to school every day full of questions about the world around them. With their creativity and resolve, they work collaboratively to find answers and new solutions.
My students are compelling storytellers!
They love having the opportunity to write about loved ones, personal experiences, and the realities they see in our community. They often seek out riveting stories to read and model their writing after. My students read fervently, finding perspective, history, and other worlds in books. When they find books that mirror some of their own experiences, they beam, sharing stories with their families and peers.
My Project
My students need a classroom library filled with books that validate their identities, appeal to their interests, and target their needs. As a second-year Reading and Social Studies teacher, I recognize that my students need materials beyond what our school district and I are able to provide. They deserve to have access to high-quality materials, ones that inspire them to be critical thinkers and lifelong learners.
The materials that you fund will provide my students with stories they can identify with and books that they want to read.
Many of my students spent most of last year at home, learning virtually. The challenges that the pandemic presented, not all of which have come to pass, have made it evident that my students are resilient. As students transition back to in-person learning, I want to ensure they have engaging, hands-on materials and that the space is bright and welcoming.
