I am currently a fifth grade English Language Arts teacher. My classroom is full of vibrant personalities. They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!
Our school is considered to be Title I due to the percentage of low-income students.
I currently teach Reading, Writing, and Grammar to a team of 32 students. I truly believe that if you don't love to read, you haven't found the right book. Finding a love for reading is critical to student success. I would love to provide a variety of book sets to engage all students; especially my reluctant readers.
My Project
With these new books my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that interest them, to read independently at their own grade level, and also participate in book clubs. Book clubs help promote a love for literature and a positive attitude towards reading; encourage extensive and intensive reading; invite natural discussions that lead to student inquiry and critical thinking; and foster interaction, cooperation, and collaboration.
The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading.
My students have already shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
