Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 35 amazing students in an urban city school. Most of my students come from low socio-economic backgrounds. My students entered 5th grade full of energy and ready to learn.

Reading is one thing that my students absolutely love!

Independent reading time and read alouds are two times that my students look forward to every day! It is a time where they can read and venture off to new places. The students in my classroom are very loving and caring individuals. I would love to be able to foster my students learning by providing them with more reading books.

My Project

The following books that I am requesting for my classroom already have a purpose in my room. In fifth grade, we focus a lot on helping students understand the theme of stories. The following books will be used as mentor texts within our classroom. Having these books will give me the opportunity to conduct many more read alouds with my students.

These books will help my students identify the many different themes in each story.

The books will also be used to expose students to different mentor sentences (well-written sentences that show off author's craft from books). The use of mentor sentences will help students focus on the style, language, grammar, and mechanics that the author uses within their story.
