Outstanding! My students are outstanding, intelligent and amazing among many other adjectives!!! They always show up to the classroom, with a huge smile and that makes me very happy as it is my goal to make them feel welcomed, comfortable, appreciated, and confident.
My current students range from 1st to 5th grade and they are amazing, bright kids that due to having Dyslexia, struggle with reading and writing.
Dyslexia affects many aspects of their learning process because it impedes the acquisition of reading without the proper instruction. Their self-worth and self-esteem are also affected as they grow up. Fortunately, as they improve through the intense interventions, they learn to overcome their difficulties and start to believe in themselves. Our school, as well as all of the schools in our district, are very fortunate to provide Dyslexia teachers for those students that have Dyslexia, but due to low funding, classrooms like mine are not properly equipped with everything needed. Our school tries hard to provide the most they can, but we don't get everything we need.
My Project
Our classroom is a reading lab that currently services 35 students. Students from different grade levels are grouped and come in to receive intense reading interventions throughout the day because they are diagnosed with Dyslexia. Our 45 minute classes are structured, systematic and direct in nature. There is no time to be wasted. The writing tools that I am requesting will help my student develop many of the skills that are targeted on a daily basis. Every day they must practice their handwriting, spelling, multisensory grammar and composition writing. With these basic necessities, students will be able to follow the lessons more efficiently.
Dry erase boards with their markers, multicolor highlighters, colored pencils, and tri write pencils will not only make the writing process more interactive and appealing, but they are also required to implement many of the lessons.
These tools will enable my students to color code parts of speech for grammar, practice letter formations, etc. As a dyslexia teacher, I need all the help that I can possibly get to maintain my students interested and engaged to maximize the learning experience in a short period of time. Please help us.
