My Students

Greetings! I am J. Bahari and I am an art teacher in Richmond, Va. I teach at a small, neighborhood school in the Northside of Richmond. We have a diverse group of learners at our school, but they are all eager to learn more and explore different possibilities with art. We are a Title I school, and our students may not be as fortunate as others from different parts of Richmond, but we are a student centered community who strive to give our kids everything we possibly can. It is my hope to provide the students a safe place where they are able to not only learn and develop their creativity but also provide a sometimes much-needed escape from the stressors they may find in their lives.

My Project

I have a plan to introduce a cultural component to my lessons throughout the year. In introducing new countries their cultures and their art, a globe and map would be very beneficial for my visual learners.

Just because one is not well-traveled does not mean that they cannot be cognizant of the vast lands that are out there and kids enjoy "seeing" the world via a map or globe; pointing to countries that they have heard about in movies, seeing where famous artists were from, or learning about traditional art forms created from various cultures around the world.

I want my kids to be aware of life outside of their neighborhoods; I want them to be intrigued with how others live in other countries. With these new supplies, I feel I will be better-equipped to show them the Earth. Thanks for listening!
