Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students are the most amazing second graders one can imagine! They are resilient despite their economic needs. Most of the population in our school qualifies for free or reduced lunch.

Since we have limited resources, we have only one Math book! We certainly don't have the means to provide literature book sets for all 25 of my students. In addition, many times our copy machine is broken down or we are out of transparencies, so that leaves the old fashioned transparency out of instruction too half the time!

Recently a visitor used a document camera during an assembly while reading a picture book to all students. Students were amazed at the "magic camera" and I began to imagine the wonders such a magical camera could bring to our classroom! No more frantic searches for transparencies, no more frustrating Math lessons without Math books, no more copying packets and wasteful copying! I could use a document camera to project instructional materials and everyone could see them. I could also confidentially review errors in their work as well as displaying stellar work so that they could make connections to the desired outcomes. I could review materials with them quickly. This technology would engage them in their learning as well.

You would make it possible for my students to have access to a multitude of materials, even if we only have one copy available. This project would make such a difference in their learning because the document camera would captivate countless types of images, books, magazines, and student work. I know that once other teachers see the power in such technology, they would be encouraged to use it as well. Please help my little ones have access to materials such as books by supporting this project. It would make such a difference in the delivery of instruction and in their learning. Thank you for considering our project!
