A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Do you think one day we may be able to live on Mars or the Moon? My students are reading to learn what it would take and attempt to build what might become a reality in the future! Help them learn the wonders of space colonization and creative thinking through science and project based learning!
My students are mostly boys that are taught within small groups in a special education classroom.
They attend a Title 1 school and are 100% on the free breakfast and lunch program. Many of them have difficulties with traditional learning methods and struggle with reading, math and writing without the assistance of my classroom. My students enjoy hands on learning and like to be creative. They are learning how to better work within a group together and engage within their own learning process.
My Project
My students need of supplies to help them build a space colony on Mars or the Moon in the classroom! They are currently learning about Mars, The Moon, NASA, and how to survive in space.
After reading and learning about what it takes to survive in space, the students will create a colony that includes information within a report about where the colony will be, who lives and works there, and how they will survive.
The final project will be to build and map out a physical representation or model of what their colony will look like and present their report to a panel within the classroom. My students will be able to creatively use the Lego's, sand, and straws to help create their model of their Mars/Moon colony for their presentation.
The items for this project will be kept in the classroom for the next year of students to assist them to help build their models. These supplies will be used for years to come to help students creatively engage and complete projects in the classroom!
My hope is through providing my students with the supplies they need before the end of this school year, they will be able to better understand the possibilities of space colonization in the future and have fun while learning about science!
My students come from homes with limited supplies. Through providing engaging items that help them build their projects at school, my students will become more excited about what they are learning and remember the experience for years to come!
