Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work with 12 curious students in a special needs class in a public school. My students are energetic and working toward goals everyday! Everyday we begin our time with high energy and readiness to progress! Our school is in a low-income community in the South Bronx where many students' families struggle to provide. I pride myself on providing the tools they need to reach their potential in our classroom. They are cooperative students who are always looking forward to new learning adventures and researching their ideas, hobbies, and subjects. My students couldn't be more excited about our school year and I would not want it any other way!

My Project

These Chromebooks will help students to achieve multiple 21st century skills. They will help students become better researchers, use the school's diagnostic program on personal lessons, access different reading materials, and learn how to type without looking (they're fascinated when they see me do it).

We are going to start multiple writing units where the students will need to research different historical eras, facts over opinions and creating arguments to support opinions.

Our school also has recently acquired a new program that can only be accessed online. Students complete a diagnostic and receive specific lessons on their needs whether its phonics, comprehension, number sense or geometry.

My students are also preparing for middle school and beyond. They need to learn skills that will involve more technology beyond games. When they have witnessed me typing without looking at the keyboard, they continue to ask me to teach them. I would love to provide a program to help them on these laptops. I believe these supplies will my students in the future schooling years!
