Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an incredibly diverse population. They come from many different cultures and backgrounds. We have over 51 different languages other than English as a primary language spoken at home. Our students work incredibly hard and are very attentive. Most of my students are preparing for college, some directly for a career, and a few for the military.

We are trying to create a community of tolerance, acceptance, and compassion within our school and our teams/clubs.

The school is so incredibly diverse (religion, ethnicity, socio-economic, single-parent homes, grandparent homes, etc.), with many immigrant families finding our town to be a wonderful, inviting home. In addition, we support the local homeless shelters, the homeless bus in a surrounding town, and our temporarily homeless students and families.

The high school has many varsity sports including football, baseball, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, volleyball, hockey, track and field, gymnastics, swimming, cross country, tennis, softball, wrestling, golf, Special Olympics, dance, and bowling.

This project is specifically for our Mechanical Mustangs Robotics Team, FRC 3314. We have numerous coaches and professional mentors working with these 24 dedicated students.

My Project

Our robotics team just learned all about their newest challenge, the Infinite Recharge game. They will need to write a program that will raise an arm, use a color sensor to determine the color on the wheel, and move the 4-colored lazy susan [a total of 8 panels, 4 colors repeat once] either 3 rotations or to a randomly assigned color.

This project is for the drive kit that will be used on this robot and the students will need to write extensive code to make sure that the robot not only moves but also is able to perform this task of spinning the colored lazy susan wheel.

They will use JAVA to code the robot and this kit will be extremely helpful.

Thank you so much for helping to inspire a generation of engineers. This project is part of a multi-part project for our team. Helping our young people learn about coding is vital for a 21st century student. Coding is another language that will become universal for many of our students, similar to mathematics.

This is part 11 of a multi-teacher, multi-part project. We have already been able to receive numerous parts to these kits which we will program and we have a dedicated computer engineering mentor who is working every night to help our students learn how to code.
