My Students

Many of the students in my classes have not developed sufficient academic skills to be successful in school and believe they are not meant to go to college. In order to convince them that they belong in college, my students must have access to technology that will increase their academic skills. I teach college-prep English to 12th graders.

Although it is required that I teach academic essays to my students, my students lack access to printers as their families don't have the money for their kids' education.

This prevents them from meeting the standards required to pass my courses. When students do not have access to the right technology, whether a printer or a computer, it is difficult to solidly teach them writing standards at a college-prep level, which will lead to college. However, I am a teacher focused on reaching students where they are, which right now is in need of a printer. I believe that providing access to a printer has the power to impact their academic skills and will lead them to college.

My Project

If an HP LaserJet Enterprise M608dn printer is purchased for my extremely needy students, the funding of this project will move them one step closer to success. With this technology, my students can work towards improving their academic writing by reprinting without fear of the cost so that they can successfully complete the English Language Arts standards for 12th grades. After they do this, I am certain that my students will more likely be interested in attending and preparing for college because they experienced legitimate academic success via quality instruction and improvement in writing. And, when they get to college, they are more likely to experience continued success because they were supported with access to a printer that was part of improving their academic performance.

I know times are tough for everyone right now, but a printer can make a huge difference in students' lives as they direct their future aspirations toward college.

You can make it possible for students to more powerfully interact with the world we live in, thus making it a better place.
