My Students

My students are just turning five. Currently, we are distance learning. For many of them, this is their first experience in a school setting, and it is anything but typical! Some of the students have special learning needs and many are learning English for the first time. The majority of their families live below the poverty line and rely on our free meal plan for their children's breakfast and lunch. The parents are very supportive and they enjoy spending time with their little ones, reading stories, and learning new things. We are a very diverse community, with over 20 languages spoken.

Our school is a high poverty, Title I school with high expectations for all.

Each day we practice letters, phonics, and sight words. We study science and math. Distance learning during the pandemic consists of live, online instruction on Zoom, and using iPad apps and websites. This is very difficult for four year olds, who can’t even sit through a movie!

My Project

My students have been working hard this past semester! They diligently log into our Zoom meeting every morning for lessons. They complete their SeeSaw online activities each day. They complete their paper work daily as well. Distance learning isn't the best situation for 4 year-olds; but, they are making great progress in all areas! I would love to provide them with some treats to keep them motivated, and to allow them to experience rewards for a job well done.

This request is for treats such as cookies and hot cocoa, holiday snowmen crafts, gift bags, and other items.

If this project is funded, the children will receive these items during their December materials pick up day. They will be so excited! For children this age, extrinsic incentives are a proven motivational tool. Please help me provide these items for a great group of children. Thank you!
