Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from an urban community outside a big metropolis. They come from diverse backgrounds, knowledge, and experiences. Our school is a Title 1 school in a low-income community. Free breakfast and lunch are available for every child on our campus, which has now become available remotely. For many, if not all of my students, this year was their first experience in a school setting. There are twenty students, ten of which who are learning English as a second language. My students are kind, clever, creative, and have a passion for learning. They have done an amazing job of adjusting to our new distance learning classroom. We actively engage in weekly Zoom check-ins for social-emotional learning and to engage with one another. We use a combination of online platforms to continue our learning and see our growth.

My Project

For many of my students, this is their first experience in school and not being able to attend school due to the pandemic has been difficult. I am hoping that with these books and materials they can find comfort and normalcy as we progress to the end of the year.

Please help me provide my students with a variety of materials they can use at home during this pandemic.

The materials will be used to create kits to support at-home learning with lessons that they can access through our online platforms. Students will use the materials for upcoming art projects and support fine motor skills through their writing practice.

The books requested will be used for all students through recorded lessons to help students with social-emotional growth and help them foster skills needed during this time.
