Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach core curriculum to TK through 1st grade students with autism. This school year I have 9 kindergarten students and 2 first graders. I have all boys in my classroom. My students benefit from visual prompts and a structured routine. They are loving kids with great personalities.

My students are always happy and eager to learn.

They enjoy reading, listening to stories, participating in story discussions, and singing during our morning routine. Although sometimes these students face difficult challenges they do not give up and I have a great team of assistants supporting me in the classroom to help meet the academic needs of my students.

My Project

The use of whiteboards is a daily activity in my classroom. We use whiteboards for guided practice during whole group instruction for English Language Arts, and Math. During ELA we practice letter formation on our whiteboards, we also practice writing short 3-4 letter words, I will say the word, students sound it out and write it on their whiteboards then everyone shows it to me. During math time we use the whiteboards to practice numbers and drawing objects to represent the numbers, as well as practicing addition and subtraction.

A classroom printer will be of great use in our classroom in order to print worksheets that will help students access the curriculum.

We use worksheets in one of our centers to review what we have already learned. The students will work in a small group with my assistant and use the worksheets to review previous ELA and math lessons.

The need of fidget toys is important in my classroom. My students need constant sensory input and fidgety toys provides my students with that sensory input they need.
