Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I know that every teacher says they have special kids and that their kids are full of potential. And, I have no doubt that is true, but my kids really are so optimistic about their lives and futures, despite their often less than ideal situations. They want to work, and they work hard.

My kids see things through a different lens.

They have been in low places, seen things they shouldn't, and felt hurt and happiness in a totally different way than most other teens. They work because they have to, and they work hard because they want to be great. The potential in these kids is unprecedented because they truly want it. They all come in with a huge desire to be successful and they will work for it 1000 times harder than anyone else, with smiles on their faces.

My Project

This year, our Title I school implemented a new course, MGD 102, which is a graphic design course. It is college tracked- so the students taking it receive 3 free college credits.

They chose to take this course because it gives them an outlet for their creativity and free expression.

The filters and SD cards will help them with the photography part of the class, saving images and keeping their lenses safe. The filters are also great when they are using the camera outside, as they have a UV shield. The Wacom tablet will allow them to start designing. The first goal is to design the cover of the yearbook, and have a piece of their school that is special to them.

This year, my goal as the yearbook advisor is to have the students design the whole book (which we're doing multilingual for our large Spanish-speaking population!) from scratch using Adobe Illustrator and In-Design.

We'd love to show you our final product! Thank you for the support.
