Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

We started an E-sports team last year at my school but district funding has fallen through. I teach at a low income inner city school with majority black students and an emerging population of hispanic/latino students. We started the team last year and registered for the E-sports Ohio league in supersmash brothers. We shocked everyone along the way as we crushed the season and got invited to the end of year state tournament. We ended up losing to the state champions but made some waves along the way.

We want to continue the team and continue the hype, but we could really use a bit more for our set up.

We are working off the bare minimum right now, but having an additional system and the items to make our current ones function are a necessity at this point. I want our kids to have the same opportunities of their peers and it became very clear once we were at the state level that this is not the case. Our students recognized immediately that our competitors have the resources far above our own and contribute massively to their ability to compete. Please help our school start making a dent in that gap of resources.
