Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 5th graders, seniors of the school. However, their reading levels range from kindergarten to 3rd grade. In spite of their learning disabilities, they come to class daily with a positive attitude ready to learn.

My students are superheroes, ready to take on challenges, despite the odds stacked against them.

Our classroom library is composed of chapter books geared towards 4th-6th grade readers. Some do a good job of decoding but have a difficult time comprehending the text. The majority of the students are hands-on and visual learners, but our math manipulatives are very limited. These students have great potential and if given the right tools can soar academically.

My Project

The start of a new school year is filled with excitement, anxiousness, and sometimes nervousness. Help me to purchase school supplies: pencils, dry erase markers and whiteboards, and glue sticks to help students start off on the right foot. The whiteboards and dry erase markers will be used during our number talk sessions in math class. The whiteboards allow students to write their ideas down quickly and they're more able to engage and actively participate in the lesson. The pencils and pencil-sharpening are a necessity when we're working diligently to solve math problems. All of the supplies requested will be put to good use by our students.

When students are prepared it provides less stress and more focus.

Some students are able to provide their own materials, but many are not. If the class already has the supplies that the students need all students will be starting on an even playing field and are ready to begin the work we have prepared for them.
