Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach Pre-Kindergarten. I think that Pre-K is very unique grade level. My youngest student is 3.9 years old, and my oldest is 4.9 years old. The children come from very low income homes. Most of them speak Spanish at home. Some speak Bengali. And some speak English. Some of the non-English speakers do speak a bit of English and some speak no English at all. This is the second year of NYC Mayor's Mike DeBlasio's Pre-K initiative. This initiative guarantees that every four-year-old in New York City will have access to this life-changing educational opportunity, with roughly 70,000 children expected to enroll.

My Project

Having the Engineer a Coaster will allow for hands on exploration of speed, gravity, inertia, and movement. The Active Play STEM Early Learning Kit will develop skills in force and motion, weight and balance, and trajectory and angles. The Water Play STEM Early Learning Kit will develop skills in gravity and flow, buoyancy and weight, and force and motion.

My project will make a difference because, as I said before, my students are brand new residents to this planet we call Earth!

There is an abundance of information these newbies need to learn about our amazing planet; through hands on exploration and experimentation. This grant will help open their young minds, spark their imaginations, and create a love of science and nature.
