Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a Title I school, and that means that the majority of my students are on free or reduced lunch. The area where the school is located was recently impacted by hurricane Harvey and now more than ever it is important to offer my students opportunities to develop their numeracy and literacy skills. Mine being a bilingual class, its population varies dramatically from year to year, with many students immigrating from countries where often they did not acquire the necessary skills to succeed at school. They are eager to learn, hardworking and deserve an opportunity to succeed.

My Project

In my classroom I use technology extensively, to make up for the lack of needed resources. I created a Wiki, that students use to practice and improve their skills and that gives them access to the multiple free resources of the internet. They can also access these resources from home, but often do not have the necessary tools to do it. This is why I want them to be able to use all those resources from our classroom. With 22 students and only two computers, it becomes a struggle for them to actually be able to spend the needed time on each daily. The use of tablets in the classroom, would definitely allow me to offer them the individual work time they need. Tablets are also extremely child friendly and motivating for every child. I am sure that this new tool would make learning math, science and reading extremely appealing.
