My Students

My students come into my classroom every day ready to learn! We know that in our classroom, it is okay to make mistakes because from these mistakes is how we grow!

We take our learning seriously as we tackle all of our core subjects such as Mathematics and English Language Arts, but we also take on challenges such as dramatics, science and even engineering!

We look forward to each day as an opportunity to learn and grow with each other.

My Project

Having these timers in my classroom will make my students break time more seamless. We would like to encourage independence for our students and currently the breaks are engineered by teachers alone. Students become very dependent on teachers for redeeming their breaks, and we are working towards student facilitation. Having individual timers will allow us to do so. The students will have ownership of their breaks and will be able to keep track of time.

Since this is an ASD class, our students are highly sensitive to time and having their own individual mechanisms to keep track of how much time they have left will decrease any anxiety during break time.

The time that these students get for breaks is highly motivating for them to complete their work. In addition, we enjoy reading daily in our read-aloud period. The students use their breaks to pick from the special book bin, but some of the title books we have aren't very appealing to them. The children have expressed their desire to read more books such as the Harry Potter series. These new books will inspire and reignite their flame for reading.
