This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing. Most of them have been at the school since kindergarten, and our school is special because we can really develop a close relationship with each individual student as they grow up.

As a school with a bilingual program, students are immersed in rigorous instruction in both English and Spanish.

There are numerous benefits to being bilingual, and students work very hard to access the curriculum despite it being a challenge. We have both Spanish-dominant and English-dominant speakers, which means that 100% of our students are second language learners.

My Project

Working in middle school has taught me the value of a minute! My classroom runs a tight ship where every single moment is valuable. We have no time to waste yet somehow time gets the best of us.

The timers will help my students keep track of how much time they have to complete a task while I am working with a group of students.

While teachers are great at multi-tasking, I recognize that when I am keeping track of time along with working with the students, it can be distracting and take away from the work we are doing. The post-its are a way for students to comment on each others work as well as a quick way for me to comment without ruining the effort that they had put in. The pens often more ways to keep my students engaged. They allow me to color code and also give teacher comments a pop out effect to get their attention. Students often use them themselves and, as an incentive for good work, I may use them as a reward.
