Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am currently teaching Spanish and Advanced Placement Spanish to high school students in Queens, New York. My students come from monolingual families and unfortunately, do not have the many opportunity to practice Spanish outside of the classroom. My students are eager to study the Spanish language and learn all about Latin American cultures.

Although most of my students come from low income families, they are constantly striving for a better future.

They are competitive, enthusiastic, and compassionate. They spend hours working within the school and the community to succeed academically and to improve their neighborhoods. Gaining fluency in Spanish will help them accomplish their goals. The tablets that I am requesting will provide them with the opportunity to engage in on-line Spanish classes and this will help them practice speaking, writing and reading skills in Spanish.

My Project

In our classroom, we spend numerous hours completing research projects. In these projects, my students are presented with articles, pictures, mostly black and white, and books. As they work in groups and handle the paper given to them, they find evidence to support their opinions. These materials would help us travel virtually to other Spanish speaking places in our classroom. These devices would make the projects more interesting and meaningful to each individual student.

With these tablets, my students would be able to virtually explore as they travel to Spanish speaking countries.

They will be able to enhance their research as they explore videos, articles and educational websites.
