This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

When most people of my generation think back about their childhoods, they have fond memories of being outside; they smile when they reminisce about how they went exploring, found special treasures, built something out of found materials, and came home covered in dirt. However, the kids in my classroom are growing up in a time where technology occupies a lot of their time and families are worried about the dangers of unattended children in an unpredictable environment - kids are spending less and less time outside.

Research tells us that children who engage in outdoor learning and play are more creative, less stressed, more focused and physically healthier than those who spend their days inside.

Why not combine those benefits with the physical, mental, and cognitive advantages of sensory play? With this project, I am requesting a Tuff Tray sensory table that will make our outdoor classroom even more engaging and develop their self-regulation and collaborative skills. A large Tuff Tray can accomodate 4-5 children at a time and will provide a durable yet inviting space for students to explore materials like sand, bubble solution, ice, oobleck, dirt, and other natural materials. As it will spend its lifetime outdoors, I am also requesting a Tuff Tray cover so we can continue to use our sensory table for as long as possible.

My goal is to give my young students a break from our four walls because outside time is so incredibly beneficial to their learning and development as four-year-olds. I'm confident the Tuff Tray sensory table will be a welcome and valuable addition to our Pre-K backyard. Thank you for considering my project!
