My Students

Each day is full of learning new skills, reading strategies, socialization, and independence. With such ownership come feelings of excitement, pride, responsibility, and the confidence to take safe risks as learners.

My students are group of kindergarten students (5-6 years old) with so much enthusiasm and excitement as they walk in the first day.

For some kids, this is their first time away from home, but I welcome them in and we become a family. We learn together through reading, math, science, social studies, the arts, and the study of a new language (Spanish). Each child is valued and has much to share and much to learn!

My Project

Textbooks are a great source for teaching informational text and many classrooms are overflowing with them. But we live in an informational age, and if we want our students to have up to date information, then magazines are the best classroom management resource. TIME magazine can be used to teach nonfiction structures, text strategies and just reading for entertainment.

Classroom magazines can help students by being exposed to up to date information on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.

This will also offer a variety of magazines to be in our classroom library. When students choose a magazine to read on their own time, they are being exposed to nonfiction and expository writing.
