Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my Language Arts class come from grades six, seven and eight. They are all first-generation Americans. Most speak Spanish at home. I need to help these children learn English. The textbooks for our class have not arrived in time for the start of the school year.

I desperately need short, culturally relevant, well-illustrated texts that will motivate my teenagers to master English.

My fellow teachers agree that my students would really benefit from a yearly subscription to TIME For Kids.

My Project

TIME checks a lot of boxes: the articles are about contemporary themes; they are accompanied by colorful graphs and illustrations; a subscription includes electronic and printed resources, so that articles can be used for whole-class instruction if I project the electronic version on my smart board or for small-group instruction using printed copies; and, once we have used the printed magazines for a particular week, each student will be free to take home a copy. Other teachers at my school have used TIME magazine with English-language students in past years, thanks to Donors Choose. They assure me that TIME is a great classroom resource. Please help me get these excellent materials to my class.
