Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I began teaching in the Bronx 17 years ago. Each year I have the privilege to meet a new group of children. Each year I learn as much from my students as they do from me. These children are eager to learn, engaged, and show me that hard work and motivation makes a lasting impression.

Many of the students at PS 291 face economical challenges, it is a large Title I school.

These challenges do not stop them from growing academically, socially, and emotionally. They overcome hurdles that many people do not have to face.

As their teacher, I infuse the need for a growth mindset with all of my lessons. Though we may not be able to change our current situation, having hope towards a better path is necessary. That path lies with education.

My Project

Every day my students engage in their learning through different tools. We often use dry erase boards and markers to jot our thinking down. These are wonderful tools but create a lot of waste. Our markers are constantly running out and the boards get dirty or do not erase completely. With reusable writing tablets will be able to spend more time engaged in work than replacing dried-out markers, create less of an impact on the environment AND be able to use these tablets to create! I know my students will greatly appreciate and enjoy sharing their knowledge through the use of these writing tablets. Any donations would help our class.
