This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My art students are curious little explorers from a vibrant neighborhood. We're just a stone's throw from Dallas's Bishop Arts District, the perfect setting for a great art program. They're flexing their wings and working to build skills that will make them lifelong, independent learners, creative thinkers, and confident problem solvers. The Art Room is a wonderful place to develop those skills as well as perseverance and self-control. They have the ambition and curiosity, now they just need the tools for the journey.

My Project

"But I couldn't come up with an idea and I didn't know it was time to clean up!" - two all too common refrains in the Art Room. Both can be serious creativity killers. This year we've moved to the Choice Art methodology, meaning students are responsible for coming up with their own art projects, gathering supplies, creating, and managing their studio time. Most are all too eager to jump in and get started, but for students with low confidence in their own creativity, beginning projects can be a real struggle!

Help us build an Inspiration Station to aid kids in generating ideas for art projects and empower kids to use their time wisely.

An Inspiration station stocked with how-to books (like Clay Lab for Kids: 52 Projects to Make, Model, and Mold with Air-Dry, Polymer, and Homemade Clay) and books about famous artists (like Frida Kahlo: The Artist who Painted Herself) is sure to get the creative juices flowing, while promoting literacy. A Time Timer Audible Countdown Timer will help keep everyone on the same page about how much longer they have to work.
