Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you ever read magazines while standing in the grocery check-out line? I would like my students to have the same excitement and interest while reading age appropriate articles with their own magazines.

Most of my students come from homes with limited English proficiency.

Sometimes they are unaware of current events because of limited exposure to mainstream media such as newspapers, magazines or English speaking television channels. They love to learn and engage in conversations about current events such as earthquakes or other natural disasters happening around the world.

My Project

My students will learn about themselves and other cultures around the world. They will develop a global appreciation of the similarities and differences among them and other children. We will read the magazines together and they will be able to complete the independent activities on their own. They will be able to take these magazines home and share with their families.

My students will enjoy reading these magazines while covering grade level standards in multiple areas including reading, math, social studies, health, geography and history.

I am sure that they will anxiously wait for the next issue. They will be able to revisit these consumable magazines since they will be able to take them home.
