Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In our class we work as individuals, as teams and as a collective group.

My students are Latin immigrants who come from stable families.

We learn in both English and Spanish to be able to participate fully in our new country and to maintain our roots. We aim to be bilingual, biliterate and bi-cultural. This allows us to apply our skills in both languages.

My Project

My students need over 50 books in Spanish, including several Junie B Jones adventures and La noche en el Titanic and Ramona la chinche, to read in our classroom. We plan to augment our library with books in Spanish. We will use these books for our free reading time. Each student is allowed to choose a book based on personal preference. They are given quiet time in class to read on their own. At the end of the week, students are selected randomly to present their book to the class.

In order for students to be enthusiastic about their free reading selection, there must be a wide variety of books.

This allows students to peruse different volumes in order to choose what appeals to them. Creating enthusiastic readers in Spanish is our goal.
