This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title I school for a district that strives to help kids succeed, Long Beach Unified School district! Many of my students come from poverty level conditions and have emotional or physical conditions that get in the way of their learning. ADD and learning dissabilities provide challenges for our students who already are struggling. Trying to teach children who need additional support requires me, as their teacher, to ask for help. Sometimes children in this type of socioeconomic status don’t have high expectations in regards to school. This is for them. These kids need to know there are people who care for their education, and I am their biggest cheerleader. They can have a different ending to their story.

My Project

As an educator and avid reader, I totally understand that loving to read doesn't come naturally to all. I have learned in my years as a teacher that the more interesting a subject is to a reader, the more they will read and become better readers. I work in a community where our students aren't always exposed to the world around them. I find that having this TIME For Kids subscription will encourage my students each night. In return, they will be practicing their reading without tears. We all benefit from encouraging our youth to learn to appreciate what authors write and the many purposes behind the articles we read and learn to love. Please help me reach out to my students and teach them that reading can be fun!
