Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students in my classroom participate in literacy centers daily. It is one of the most important times of our day. While I work with students in a small group on targeted areas of struggle, the rest of the students complete independent activities to practice their literacy skills.

A non-fiction reading station would be a great addition to our literacy rotations.

Independent reading time is valued very highly by the students in my classroom. While I have lots of high-interest books in my classroom library, one of my goals for my students this year is to expose them to a variety of text genres. The Time for Kids magazines I requested in this project would help me work toward that goal. The articles are informative and timely, and I believe exposing students to these types of texts will help to cultivate a generation of students who recognize the importance of learning about current events not only as students, but as citizens of their communities.

The subscription would provide each of my students with a weekly magazine to explore during a non-fiction reading rotation. The subscription also includes digital access to content at three different reading. Key articles can also be accessed in Spanish. The online version also provides a text to speech feature. These features will give all my students access to high-quality non-fiction texts regardless of reading level or language acquisition.

Thank you for learning about our project and for considering donating to our classroom this year.
