This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Reading is so important. The more a child reads, the better their vocabulary will be in speaking and writing. I want my students to have many opportunities to learn new things and to read often.

We are a Title 1 school; the majority of my students are low-income and at risk of dropping out before they graduate from High School.

One of the biggest indicators of this is their reading level. I strive every day to give my students experiences to read many types of genres. The hardest genre to for them is non-fiction. They struggle with finding information and using that information in research projects and writing. Also, my students do not have a lot of outside experiences. Most of the background knowledge they will need in life, they have to acquire at school. I want to give them every opportunity that other students would have.

My Project

The Time for Kids subscription for each student will be a great help in the classroom. The students often read only fiction books. These magazines are nonfiction so the students can learn a lot of new information. They will be able to use these magazines to help them understand and use nonfiction information. Also, these will help teach my students about topics they may have never heard of. My students don't travel very often so these will help them experience new places and things.

They will be able to experience reading in a whole new way! They can also learn new things about different people, places, and animals. Lastly, it shows them how important it is to do things for others. You are a great example of giving to help others.
