My Students

My classes are full of enthusiastic learners who are also prolific readers. They enjoy discussions about stories, issues, current events, and local problems and solutions. Our library is stocked with fiction books, but they need frequent practice reading nonfiction texts like "Time For Kids."

They come to school ready to do innovative lessons, and read prolifically.

They are discussion oriented and problem solvers. They surround themselves with books. We are a STEM school and we strive to connect our instruction to current local problems. We are located in a fast paced, urban setting.

My Project

A "Time For Kids" subscription will provide each student with a weekly issue of an amazing reading resource that is based on current events and kid friendly topics of interest. Our reading program predominantly uses fiction titles, but TFK will help us to provide students with essential practice reading quality, appropriate nonfiction text. These magazines will also be able to be shard at home with parents. I assign a nightly review of the magazine. Every month there is an additional Financial Literacy supplement that allows us to educate the students in concepts they can relate to to build their understanding of money and the ways to start on a successful financial path.

My students will strengthen reading skills, oral language skills, and gain awareness of important current events and issues related to their lives.

A relevant education improves learning and interest so these magazines will enable consistent connections to current events. My students' lives will also be improved because they will be gaining financial literacy with frequent opportunities.
