I feel fortunate to work in a district with parents, students, and teachers who each play a pivotal role in the learning environment.
My goal, as their teacher, is to provide diverse teaching strategies to maximize their mathematical understanding.
So many times students understand the procedures but lack a deeper understanding of the mathematical concepts. After the past two years’ interruptions in learning due to COVID, students have experienced unfinished learning as well as become more disengaged in learning. I want to provide my students with opportunities to leave my classroom with a thorough understanding of the math processes and be able to relate concepts to everyday life.
These resources requested will provide more engaging hands-on experiences as well as note taking skills that will benefit them for years to come.
My Project
To help my students learn amid the pandemic, I could use Algebra Tiles and calculators to engage my students in learning mathematical concepts while helping my students move from concrete to abstract thinking.
To make an upcoming unit more engaging, my students would love the opportunity to use Algebra Tiles to help them understand more concretely algebraic concepts.
Using calculators will assist them with calculations while focusing more to the processes of problems faced.
To bring my dream learning activity to life, I’d love to get Algebra Tiles and calculators. Using manipulatives is a way to bring mathematical concepts to life, especially in a time when students are more disengaged in learning than ever.
