It’s unbelievable the strength, leadership, and perseverance our students possess. I’ve had students working to help support their family, lived in cars, fought cancer, survivors of child abuse, etc.; the list is too long to comprehend. Despite these tragedies, these brave students are resilient and determined to create a successful future.
Many times, all these kids need is one person loving them...one person saying, "I believe in you", once that occurs, it’s amazing the places they go.
I’ve had students in the past that have worked hard to enter the college of their dreams, only to be rejected. Rather than giving up, those kids put their heart into an appeals essay, and each time the look on their face when given that chance and accepted is priceless.
The media often portrays the bad in this generation, but I get to see the other side- the ones who help their friend struggling, the ones who give the kids with special needs a hug, and the ones who will be the first to defend anyone who believes in them. This is a special group of kids- please help prove to them they ARE worth the chance and people DO believe in them.
My Project
These Decision Day items, such as computers, printers, refrigerators, and microwaves will help make the students transition to college more affordable. They will be used to help complete assignments and do online work.
As Hurricane Harvey devastated our area, many of our students lost these items and have found it difficult to regain them.
Many of these items are needed to help them be successful as they reach for higher goals. Many of our students do not have any of these items and it will be very beneficial in the learning process as they work towards their bachelor degree and beyond.
