Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I have 22 active and curious 4- and 5-year-old students. These students are English Language Learners in a Title I school where more than 95% of students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
My pre-k students are happy and excited to be in school.
Even though my students have challenges, I focus on each child's potential. I want to help my students develop and grow as much as possible during the time they are in my class. It is important for me to get them the resources they need to be the best learners they can be. I know that with a little support, my students will thrive.
Our students and their families suffered a great deal from Hurricane Harvey at the beginning of last school year. Many families lost homes and possessions due to the heaving flooding of the area. However, we are working hard to overcome the setbacks of last year by providing a safe and engaging learning environment for all learners.
My Project
Our classroom is lucky to have wooden blocks. Currently, the students are able to use a few blocks that fit in a medium size plastic tub. The tub is not an ideal storage solution. Students dump all the blocks out so they can retrieve the ones they need. Then when it is time to clean up, they tend to throw the blocks back into the tub.
Once we have our storage unit, students will be able to use more of the blocks we currently have and will be able to store them neatly.
The students learn many math concepts while they build and create. Students also learn how to work cooperatively and develop language skills. The block center is an important learning center, and the storage unit will insure that we are using our current set of blocks for maximum benefit.
