My Students

We are TI, from the BRONX! I'm so happy to be speaking to you right now about some amazing teaching that we want to do with kids at our 6-8 Middle School: we all know that blended & flipped teaching is the new normal, we just need a little help from you.

I teach awesome kids living and learning in the Bronx, NYC.

Our kids are from some beautiful islands that we all love to visit: primarily from the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, but they hail from as far as Pakistan or West Africa. Our families are poor in money, but they are rich in culture and love their kids. Our kids speak Spanish at home and they may live double or tripled up...but their parents support our school with attendance, concern for grades and sometimes delicious treats. It is our 4th year as a school and, while we are still learning to be a community, we have come a long way. The school culture is in the best place it has been in the past 4 years and students tell us all time that they like it here (1. they show up on time, 2. they stay till 6 pm when we have to push them out the door).

My Project

We are asking for a few pieces of technology that will able to travel with students who are unable for certain reasons to complete the flipped and blended work we give them. 2 Chromebooks might not sound like much, but it is hardware for students to use before school, at lunch and even take home. We predict 15 or so students a day will benefit from the increased access 2 Chromebooks will bring. Through growing our teachers abilities to deliver blended instruction, we will improve dramatically the abilities for students to engage in 21st century skills "controlling their pace and place". The award winning book "Blended" provides a resource for teacher to begin, continue and extend their journey into tech delivery. We plan to leverage professional development as an extension of reading "Blended".

A projected 15 students a day will benefit from the new tech (as well as at home in the evenings).

This will help typically under served students have an opportunity to access "pace and place work" & quality hardware. Students will learn 21st century skills that transcend the classroom and ESL/ELL students will have the opportunity to learn in both their home and target language. As well, a teacher core of 6 faculty members will "jigsaw Blended" and then share out with 30+ faculty.
