My Students

I teach math at a diverse public high school in New York City. My students inspire me each day with their fierce zest for life and their dedication to their family and friends. They are curious, creative, and come to life with hands-on activities. As my students navigate their high school years, many find themselves asking: how is math relevant to my life?

Taking AP Statistics enables my students to make connections between abstract math and their very real surroundings, some for the very first time!

In a world that constantly bombards us with information, my students are learning how to produce and use data, how to recognize bad data, and how to make good decisions based on what information we know and can gather.

My Project

This is the second year we are offering AP Statistics and the enrollment and interest continues to grow!

With this year’s larger class, we need more calculators available to my students who cannot afford to buy one on their own.

The course and the AP exam requires students to describe distributions of data, analyze the validity of research studies, and make inferences based on evidence. Graphing calculators enable students to perform complicated procedures in a fraction of the time, freeing them up to grapple with these important concepts. This set of calculators is an investment that will impact new classes of statistics students for many years to come.

By donating, you will help provide TI-84 graphing calculators for students to use in class and to check out for home use as needed. You will be handing students a powerful digital tool that will help them access higher-level ideas in a college-level course. Thank you so much for your support!
