My Project

Providing crochet and knitting materials will offer students a hands-on, creative outlet to reduce stress, enhance focus, and develop fine motor skills. A significant number of my students struggle with severe anxiety and depression, and these activities have already proven to be a therapeutic outlet for them. Crochet and knitting foster mindfulness, helping students better manage their mental health, which in turn supports their ability to concentrate and succeed academically. Additionally, learning these crafts introduces problem-solving, patience, and perseverance, all of which are valuable life skills.

The primary goal is to create a calming, supportive space where students can engage in meaningful, creative work that provides relief from stress and mental health challenges.

By learning crochet and knitting, students can experience a sense of accomplishment and build confidence. Long-term, the project aims to encourage collaboration and community-building among students as they share techniques and work on group projects, fostering a stronger sense of belonging and support within the classroom.

My students are incredibly resilient and creative individuals who face daily challenges, both academically and personally. Many are navigating significant mental health struggles, yet they show a strong desire to learn and express themselves. Crochet and knitting provide them with an accessible and empowering way to cope with these challenges. Their openness to exploring new activities, coupled with their diverse backgrounds and perspectives, ensures that the items they create will be as unique and inspiring as they are.
