Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a school that is overcrowded and students are facing many challenges with the new changes in the school system, first the pandemic closed their school replacing their teachers, classroom and friends with a computer. Then when they are finally back they have to cover their faces and it’s hard to express themselves. Many of my students are suffering from anxiety and need a lot of motivation and support to express themselves and come to school in general. My students supposed to be an intermediate class (Spanish 3) but because of the circumstances they are at different levels in class. Using art will encourage them to interact and find new ways to have fun in Spanish class.

My Project

I want to teach my students that they can create artwork to decorate their world (away from the computer screen). We will be learning Spanish and its culture thru basics arts using these materials. In an effort to make their school environment more beautiful and personalized, I want to show the students that their work matters by decorating their class, school offices and hallway in the school where everyone can see their work. This project will help my students improve their surroundings while they improve their Spanish language, cultural and art skills.

My students will learn Spanish and art is a wonderful creative outlet.

Not only will creating art improve their mood, but the final product will make others happy as well. They will share their art with other students, staff, and future students.
