This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have been teaching for twenty-seven years because I care about my students.

I am always thrilled when I can see a child visibly change as they achieve comprehension of a new skill and can use it as their own.

I teach a great group of teenagers. They are from an area in which a huge amount are on public assistance or aid. My students not only go to school, but many of them take jobs to aid their families in the paying of bills or other expenses. A lot of them come to class exhausted after working the night before, and skip meals.

I have always strived to do everything I can for my students. A lot will not go to anyone for help, yet they will come and ask for a granola bar or something to ease hunger pains from me. I am happy to be there for them. This little snack that I give them, does more then anyone could imagine. It helps them to refocus energy that is being used thinking about their stomachs. This is truly food for thought.
