My Students

I love the question "what makes your students special" knowing that "everything" is not the best answer, but it is most certainly true. My students are eager to learn and want to do their best daily. Their confidence is contagious, and they make teaching the best job around.

I teach at a Title I school with diverse students from all walks of life.

Many of the students receive free/reduced-price lunch and also receive "backpack buddies" which provides them with food and snacks for the weekend. Despite the challenges they may face, my students come to school ready to do their very best.

My Project

I love the idea for this project. Last year I incorporated a lot of flexible seating into our room (and the students loved it). Our room was bright and fun. This year I want to take a different approach and make our classroom resemble a living room (yes, like in our house). A living room represents a place where family and friends gather to sit and converse. We make memories in our living room and most importantly, we are comfortable there. I want the classroom to be a place where my students find comfort.

Many of my students have expressed that they do not utilize their living rooms for deep conversations and quality time in their homes.

By having our classroom look more like a home we are creating a space that is welcoming and comfortable for my students but also a space that will represent deep conversations and thinking.

And of course a project is not complete without books and basic supplies that are needed for future projects. I am most excited about this because we have many hands-on activities and projects planned for the 2019-2020 school year.
