Our students are book lovers, thinkers, dreamers and seekers. They love to read and find it especially fun when the whole school reads the same book. This year, we get to welcome back to our school the amazing Katherine Applegate, author of our "One School, One Book," Crenshaw! With this "all school read", our adventures beyond the pages will lead us to helping our local homeless center as we build upon our empathy and help those less fortunate than ourselves. Many of our students' families struggle financially resulting in only about 10% being able to afford to purchase author's books when they visit. It is my dream to surprise each and every one of my 500 students with a copy of their own Crenshaw to cherish. Please help me make this dream come true!
My Project
Typically, only about 10% of our students are able to buy our author's books when they visit. With this project, I am dreaming of surprising ALL of our students with a copy of Katherine Applegate's The One and Only Ivan (our "One School, One Book" from 2012-2013) and Crenshaw (our current "One School, One Book").
Having their own personalized copy of these two books that mean so much to them and encapsulate such enormous book love and memories surrounding Applegate's visit, will provide a magical and emotional connection that will last a lifetime.
They will keep and treasure these copies forever! Imagine their reaction when they are told these books are theirs to keep!
This is all in the spirit of getting kids excited about reading and to treasure the gift that books provide. This is an adventure beyond the pages that they will travel time and time again as they re-read the book and see their name in the author's handwriting. It's priceless, really. This dream can come true, if you help me pursue! Consider donating and then please spread the word to any and all who you think might be able to help.
