Thirteen Great Stories About Being Thirteen, Part 2

My students need 25 copies of "Thirteen Stories That Capture the Agony and Ecstasy of Being Thirteen," so they can read fun, interesting fiction that will capture their imagination and inspire them to enjoy reading.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are hard-working, highly motivated middle-schoolers from an impoverished community. They are immigrants or first-generation Americans, and are struggling to learn the basics of reading, writing, listening and speaking in English. My class is their only opportunity to practice language skills, because they do not hear academic English outside of school. These students need high-quality, meaningful books to read, that are age-appropriate and extremely interesting.

My students' parents cannot, and will not, provide enrichment materials for the classroom, so if my students are going to have great reading, I must depend on your help.

My Project

Our school provides very bland and uninteresting reading for students. You probably remember just this sort of thing from your own eighth grade year -- or rather, you do NOT remember it, because that kind of reading just drives students to look out the window, instead.

The book I am requesting is filled with realistic young teen fiction that reflects the true interior life of thirteen-year-olds: The birthday party that goes hilariously awry; a first kiss; questions about romantic attraction; the pair of sneakers you just have got to have; the heartbreaking first crush.

The stories I am requesting are funny, sad, exciting, and touching, and completely capture the angst of early adolescence in a way that will captivate my students.
