Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are part of an ICT 3rd grade classroom located in the Washington Heights neighborhood of upper Manhattan. My students come from low-income families and receive free lunch. My class is filled with young, eclectic, energetic, and curious minds that love to explore through learning.

My students learn ELA, science, and social studies within one classroom setting and require differentiated learning applied thoroughly throughout our curriculum.

To engage their curious, enthusiastic, and growing minds immediate access to technology, health and wellness resources, functional classroom dynamics, and basic classroom supplies will allow the students to learn hands-on; a requirement towards their differentiated learning.

My Project

Traditional classroom seating is a thing of the past, especially in my classroom! After using flexible seating within my diverse fourth grade classroom, I truly have seen amazing results in academic growth, independence, and behavior management. It is my goal for the following school year to incorporate new and various options to my future third grade students that have never experienced flexible seating before!

Through the use of the laptop tables my students will have the option of working comfortably on the floor while providing the structure and support they need by a functional lap table to produce their work.

Unlike the lap tables, the floor discs will provide the students with a free choice of flexibility to work on the floor however they please. They can use the cushions as head rests, seat cushions, or to simply lay on. However the student pleases to use the items is key to these two items.

In addition to the two floor seating options, the folding mat has become an essential part of my current classroom! It is time to upgrade and receive a new, whole, comfortable mat. Some students prefer to sit on comfy surfaces, and what better than the foam folding mat that is extremely comfortable and soft. An added bonus to the folding mat is that it is easy to clean!

With these items, my third grades will have more choices towards how they will learn in their independent work spaces. Allowing them to discover the best working environment to their individual learning styles.
