My Project

I have currently been teaching summer school at my new site and have loved getting to know my future students. They are incredibly empathetic, supportive, kind, and helpful. They have a strong love of learning, their friends, and their families. They have expressed a strong interest, passion and love of science and engineering so I want to be able to give them the resources that fuel that passion.

I use science and history to teach literacy concepts so students will be able to strengthen their understanding of important scientific and historical concepts while building their literacy skills.

For example, a standard for third grade is to be able to ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text. I would take an engineering/science book to help practice this skill but then also give them the opportunity to engage in a hands on activity related to the science concepts in the text.

Engineering also helps students develop important collaboration and problem solving skills. They are able to work together to solve any issues that arise with their projects whether it is the project itself or any problems within their group. This also helps support students in my class that are learning English. They are able to practice important communication skills and engage in the activities in class fully.
