Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year my ASB Leadership class is hosting our Third Annual Black History Joy Community Event at our High School on February 28th, 2025. Black History Joy is a schoolwide event open to the community. It includes art workshops, local food vendors, student and community performances, student fundraisers, art exhibits and more. The theme this year is Pan Africanism to spread awareness about the African Diaspora, especially since our student body is made up of Black students from various continents.
Honoring and celebrating Black History Month is especially important at our historically African-American school.
In the past decade, our demographics have drastically changed. However, we want to actively support our Black students, teachers, administration and staff. Our first Black History Joy event two years ago resulted in high student engagement from all racial and ethnic backgrounds; so much that students are already asking for our event this year.
To fully bring our Black History Joy Event to life, we need financial support to bring our Pan African Theme to life, including art, decorative and logistical supplies that will be distributed to students and community members for free. The supplies include canvases, decorations (balloons, table cloths, etc.), Black History Month wristbands, snacks, utensils for food distribution and more.
