My Students

My math classroom is usually filled with the noise of learning - students asking questions, students explaining concepts to one another, and students working together to solve problems. However, there are times when students need a quiet, individual space.

We live in a low-income, rural area.

Many families struggle to provide their students with basic needs. We work hard at my school to provide students with the best education possible so they have the opportunity to succeed in life. Like all middle school students, they are full of curiosity about each other and the world around them. I try to keep that curiosity fresh while still teaching them the difficult math curriculum that is required.

My Project

Most of the time, my students need time and space to work together. We solve a lot of difficult math problems in my classroom in groups that students would not be able to tackle on their own, and we make a point of being able to explain why an answer is correct instead of just moving on to the next formula. My classroom has tables, which is a great set up for group learning activities. But there are times when we need spaces to work by ourselves - and times when we need to concentrate on our own quiz or test - and these study carrels will allow my students to have that space. These durable separators will last for years and benefit many, many students.

These study carrels will make my room more flexible: we will have the ability to easily and quickly switch between group work and private thinking.

My group tables will be able to transform into individual work spaces and back, which will allow students to learn in more than one way.
