My Students

My students are creative problem solvers and enthusiastic learners. They live and learn in a New York City Pre-Kindergarten to 5th grade school. They come from a diverse community with a wonderful variety of cultural backgrounds and languages (Chinese, Russian, Albanian, Italian, and Mandarin). More than half of the students come from low-income households, and many of them are part of military families. More than half of the students are English Language Learners. Many families endured Hurricane Sandy and are still recovering from the devastation that the storm left. They are hard-working and full of inspiration and an eagerness to create.

Art is a language we can all speak and working in a group creates a ​strong community.

They just need the tools to create.

My Project

My students are going to be exploring paint, oil pastels, crayons, markers, easel, colored paper, and glue as they learn about art history. Learning from the masters and contemporary artists will enable my students to work as artists.

Having acrylic paint, oil pastels, crayons, colored paper, glue, and brush cleaner will enable my students to explore different art techniques to create art-work in response to famous artists, the world as it is now as well as their thoughts, feelings, and imaginations.

Given the right supplies, my students will experience the joy and success of creating, sharing, and analyzing artwork that they see and create.
