My Students

I teach in a small rural setting, and my students come from very diverse backgrounds. Approximately 60% are FARMS, but most push themselves to take AP, Honors, CTE, and college courses through the local community college as well as the local private liberal arts college.

I am very proud of the accomplishments of my students and hope to challenge their thinking daily.

I am constantly working on independent PD in order to better instruct and prep students for life beyond the K-12 educational setting. In doing so, I share my work with my students so they know that teaching to me is more than a "9-5" job.

Since so many of my students are in school all day and work most afternoons and weekends, I want my classroom to be a comfortable environment for learning to occur, down to special seating and a coffee maker for those inclined to make a cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. Simple pleasures feel more like luxuries which my students are always thankful for!

My Project

Gone are the days of reading and writing and reading and writing. Updating my curriculum has allowed more time for engaging in the creative process prior to synthesizing essays.

By partnering with College Board and AP Learning Partners Program, I've had the ability to add more creative thinking to my curriculum.

My classroom is now more colorful, and my students are engaged in multiple ways. Their essays are reflecting a better understanding of the material learned. I can only hope that during the AP Test they can access their prior knowledge and score above both the national and state average.
